เจ้าหน้าที่จากหอดูดาวเฉลิมพระเกียรติ 7 รอบ พระชนมพรรษา ขอนเเก่น สังกัด NARIT สถาบันวิจัยดาราศาสตร์แห่งชาติ ลงพื้นที่ลานกางเต็นท์ตาดฟ้า อุทยานแห่งชาติภูเวียง – Phu Wiang National Park เพื่อตรวจประเมินคุณภาพของท้องฟ้า และตรวจสอบความพร้อมของพื้นที่ในการขอขึ้นทะเบียนเป็น “อุทยานท้องฟ้ามืด” หรือ Dark Sky Park

ในการนี้ นายสุธรรม วงษ์จันทร์ หัวหน้าอุทยานแห่งชาติภูเวียง ในฐานะรองผู้อำนวยการอุทยานธรณีขอนแก่น เป็นผู้ให้ข้อมูลและร่วมหารือกับเจ้าหน้าที่จากหอดูดาวขอนแก่นฯ เพื่อเตรียมพัฒนาพื้นที่ให้เหมาะสมยิ่งขึ้นต่อไป

อุทยานท้องฟ้ามืด (Dark Sky Park) คือ เขตอนุรักษ์ท้องฟ้ามืดในพื้นที่อุทยานแห่งชาติ ที่รักษาและสงวนท้องฟ้าในเวลากลางคืนให้มีความมืดที่เหมาะสม ด้วยวิธีการใช้แสงสว่างอย่างระมัดระวัง เหมาะสมต่อการใช้งาน ไม่ก่อให้เกิดมลภาวะทางแสง (Light Pollution) ที่ส่งผลกระทบต่อระบบนิเวศ การสิ้นเปลืองพลังงาน ความปลอดภัย และการสังเกตการณ์ทางดาราศาสตร์ รวมทั้งเป็นแหล่งเรียนรู้ แหล่งท่องเที่ยวเชิงอนุรักษ์และเชิงดาราศาสตร์ ที่ช่วยเผยแพร่และสร้างความตระหนักถึงผลกระทบของมลภาวะทางแสงแก่ประชาชน มีค่าความมืดท้องฟ้าอยู่ในระดับที่สามารถสังเกตเห็นวัตถุท้องฟ้า เช่น ดาวเคราะห์ ดาวฤกษ์ กลุ่มดาว กระจุกดาว เนบิวลา หรือทางช้างเผือกได้ด้วยตาเปล่า

January 9, 2024, officials from the Khon Kaen Regional Observatory, under NARIT, the National Astronomical Research Institute, visited the Tad-fa campsite in Phu Wiang National Park. The mission was to assess the quality of the sky and check the readiness of the area for applying for registration as “Dark Sky Park”, a milestone of promotion of astronomical tourism in Khon Kaen Geopark. In this regard, Mr. Sutham Wongchun, Chief of Phu Wiang National Park, as Deputy Director of Khon Kaen Geopark was the contributor of information and participating in discussions with officials from the Observatory.

Dark Sky Park is a dark sky conservation zone in the national park area. The zones preserve the night sky with appropriate darkness, monitor the use of light to be eco-friendly and reduce light pollution. Energy consumption, safety, and astronomical observation are also considered. The dark sky park is also a source of learning, Ecotourism, and astronomical attractions that helps disseminate and create awareness of the effects of light pollution among the public. There is a level of darkness in the sky where celestial objects such as planets, stars, constellations, nebulae, or even the Milky Way can be observed with the naked eye.
